Senior Textile Competition 2017






The Shrewsbury Drapers Company held their 21st annual Textile Design Competition from Wednesday 20th September to Friday 29th September at St Mary's Church Shrewsbury.


The theme for 2017 was 'All That Jazz !'


The competition attracted a wide range of amateur adult entries as well as a large variety of student entries from schools and colleges across Shropshire. Entries in the student category included entries from Shrewsbury College, Shrewsbury Sixth Form College, Telford College and Oswestry School.


The judges this year were Stephanie Kemp and Leila Corbet who both have considerable experience in the field of Textiles including fashion, pattern cutting, weaving and embroidery.   


The Awards and presentation evening took place on Tuesday 19th September where the prize winners were announced. This was followed by a private viewing of the exhibition and a chance to see the award winning entries. The High Sheriff of Shropshire, The Chairman of the Arts Society Shrewsbury, the Mayor of Shrewsbury together with other members of the Shrewsbury Drapers Company all attended the event.


The Jackie Ryan Memorial Award was presented to Amelia Roe from Birmingham City University, formally a student from Shrewsbury Sixth Form College. The prize is a two week work placement with Tweedmill Textiles in Flint with the opportunity to design a woven wool throw which is then put into production as a limited edition exclusive production run.
