On the 27th June the Shrewsbury Drapers and residents of the Drapers Almshouses enjoyed some extremely delicious cakes and scones (purchased from the Refresh cafe at Severn Hospice) as they gathered to celebrate the opening of the newly constructed gazebo at their flagship almshouse, Drapers Place. The gazebo was designed and built by Gareth Jenkins, ex dentist, magician, and now woodworker extraordinaire.
We were honoured by the presence of Mandy Thorn, the current High Sheriff of Shropshire (and also a Draper) who surprised Gareth by presenting him with her first Sheriff’s Award in recognition of his great and valuable service to the community. He was also given a lovely bottle of malt whiskey from the residents of Drapers Place Almshouses as a token of their appreciation
The immediate past-master, Brian Newman presented our current Master, Gaynor Bowen, with a print of the Holy Cross Almshouses which will be on display in the Bradbury Room at Drapers Place.
