PATRONS AWARD

SHREWSBURY  DRAPERS COMPANY  HONOURED BY HRH THE PRINCE OF WALES

On December the 10th the Almshouse Association conferred its  Patron's Award for an outstanding almshouse development on Shrewsbury Drapers Company.  The Patron's Award is presented by Prince Charles.  The Award was for the Drapers Place development at Abbey Foregate, 4x2 bedroom and 21x1 bedroom flats with communal sitting rooms for the residents, and the Bradbury Room, a large meeting room with kitchen available for community use, set in landscaped grounds.

The presentation was made on behalf of Prince Charles by HRH the Duke of Gloucester , the Royal Vice Patron of the Almshouse Association at Hammersmith United Charities' Sycamore House in London. The Duke of Gloucester had formally opened Drapers Place in 2017. Shrewsbury Drapers Company was represented by Richard Auger, Jan Boyd and Margaret Simmons, all of whom were involved in different aspects of the development project .

Master of Shrewsbury Drapers Company, Mary Rose Bone said "Drapers Place took many years to plan and build, and an immense amount of hard work by members of Shrewsbury Drapers Company.  Whilst  being able to provide homes for older people in a community setting is reward in itself the unexpected addition and privilege of the Award is the icing on the cake.
